Intergenerational Bookmaking

  • Budlong Woods, Chicago Public Library Location 5630 North Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL, 60659 United States (map)

Join Matt and learn how to create simple and beautiful books of your very own. All ages are welcome, as there will different styles of bookmaking available at all levels of ability.

Using only paper, rubber bands, glue, various cutting implements and/or needle and thread, find out how to bind pages into an empty book - which you can fill with whatever you like! Perhaps you've made a blank journal, a picture book, a place to keep your collection of poems, or other means of holding and sharing your very own stories. If you have any bookmaking materials of your own, please bring them along!

JAHHM enhanced CPL's free drop-in programs with activities grounded in the social reform history and storytelling activities of Hull-House including bookbinding, zine making, art making, improvisation, and theater arts. Drawing from professional development workshops led by Hull-House collaborators, CPL developed programs across the city that enable people to express themselves.
