scrap !!! attak

  • Jane Addams Hull-House Museum 800 South Halsted Street Chicago, IL, 60607 United States (map)

For one night only, some of Chicago’s brightest puppeteers will gather to tell stories of epic proportions, tragic falls from grace, of small heroes overcoming immense consequence - all made with the secondhand crap they could scrounge for $20 and staple together into a story in just under a week.

In the Residents’ Dining Hall at the site of the historic Jane Addams Hull-House, Auricle rears its shaggy head with another piece of free-for-a-favor theater: it’s time for scrap !!! attak. In celebration of the fullness of spring and the DIY ethos of our great city, scrap !!! attak joyfully shouts re-use and re-imagination. Come see cardboard and plastic boxes open up into worlds of myth and legend, great heroes and total cowards portrayed by some stuff we found in the kitchen. scrap !!! attak has come to remind us that the whimsy and truth of the world is everywhere, as long as you're listening.

As ever, an Auricle show is almost free: when you come to the show you will be asked to fill out a card indicating what kinds of favors or skills you could offer down the line. The work of making the work does not end with the performance - it continues into our lives after the lights have been turned off and the puppets put away. You will make a friend. You will help them fix their sink. The connections made because of these exchanged favors will help us open the door and march down the path of the world we want to create.

scrap !!! attak features work by:

Anastar Alvarez, Lindsey Ball, Justin D’acci, Emma Garthwaite, Vim Hile, and Leah Lara
