Mapping the Neighborhood with Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and Armour Elementary School

  • bridgeport coffeehouse (map)

Press about this event:

"In the first of eight weeks of collaboration, students toured the Hull-House and looked through its archival collection of photographs, newspaper clippings, and everyday objects...For the next four weeks, [Michael] Ramirez and other Hull-House educators visited Armour and worked with students on examining Armour archives of Bridgeport and of people that used to go to Armour. Many of the students had family members going back a generation that attended Armour. Educators also organized a panel discussion day with Armour alums and teachers who live or lived in the neighborhood talking about how they see Bridgeport changing."

-"Bridgeport Elementary Schoolers Map Their Neighborhood" Adam Przybyl for South Side Weekly (July 7, 2018)

Join Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and Armour Elementary School for an art exhibition featuring the artwork of the 2018 Armour Elementary graduating class. Take a look at the changes in our neighborhoods while supporting a local Bridgeport business.

Over the course of six weeks, Armour students worked with the Hull-House education team and archivist to map their own neighborhoods, explore their school's archive, and discover how family and personal items have stories to tell. Come explore their maps!

This event will take place at Bridgeport Coffeehouse,  3101 South Morgan Street, Chicago IL. 60608. The Museum will close at 2:00 PM on this day to allow the Hull-House Education team to attend the event. We hope you will join us!
